HISTORY
Ruabon Works is a state of the art manufacturing location whose industrial roots go back to the eighteenth century, when coal mines, brickworks and potteries first began operating on the site. This was the beginning of a history of innovation and development.
In the nineteenth century chemicals production was introduced with the extraction of oil and wax from shale and the distillation of tar from coal.
In the early 20th century the site became the world's leading phenol producer. In 1919 Monsanto established its first venture outside the USA at Ruabon Works and vanillin, salicylic acid and aspirin were manufactured.
In 1930 manufacture of chemicals for the rubber industry was introduced and in 1995 Flexsys Rubber Chemicals Limited became operators of the site, focusing on the manufacture of highly specialised chemicals for the international rubber industry.
Flexsys' investment in modern manufacturing technology and infrastructure has released capacity for development by other businesses and a number of guest operators have moved to Ruabon Works.
For four centuries Ruabon Works has been a leader in industrial innovation and manufacturing excellence. To find out more about becoming part of this efficient manufacturing community, contact us .
